Žirovnica
Žirovnica is a settlement in Slovenia. It is located in the historic Upper Carniola region, close to the Austrian border. There is a small artificial lake, Završnica, in the vicinity of the town. During the Second World War, a battle took place between the German army and the Partisans on 20th February, 1942, on nearby Mount Stol, during which the Prešeren Lodge (Slov. Prešernova koča) was also burned to the ground and it was not rebuilt until 1965. After the Second World War, a Yugoslav labour camp for political prisoners operated in Žirovnica.
